For the first time in the history of Greendale Secondary School, we have achieved honours in the sports arena at the National level!

These achievements could not be made possible, without the support and belief of everyone in the Greendale Family. And that includes the Teachers and Coaches who dedicated their time, and effort in tirelessly working with the winners, amidst the various challenges and surmounting odds that were constantly knocking on the doors, in order to achieve sporting excellence.

To the Softball B Boys, and Cheryl, we salute you. And congratulations!

Physical & Sports Education Conference 2017

The Physical & Sports Education Conference (PSEC) 2017 was held on 28 and 29 August 2017, at the Singapore Sports School. The conference was intended for PE practitioners to examine fundamental tenets of quality teaching and learning, and deepen their understanding and application of pedagogical practices.

PSEC 2017 Keynote Address by Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister (MOE Schools)

The PE Department presented under Strand B – Innovative Learning and Teaching through Leveraging Technology. It is believed that technology, when used purposefully in PE, Sports and Outdoor Education, can have a significant impact on the engagement of students and help them to enhance their learning. The meaningful use of technology acts as a catalyst to enhance students’ appreciation of the application of skills in authentic situations, increase verbalisation of their deeper understanding, and enable a transfer of practice from one context to another.

Orienteering is typically conducted using a map and a compass. While this skill is useful to know, the current generation is more “tech-savvy” and prefer using technology to aid in navigating. This preference, coupled with a high mobile penetration rate in Singapore, provided the impetus for adopting technology in orienteering lessons.

Our HOD PE/CCA Presenting the Orienteering App

At Greendale Secondary, we use a variety of free apps in mobile tablets for orienteering lessons, which allow student-centred collaborative learning to take place. Hence, students are more engaged and have become more responsible for their own learning.
