Be the Difference in Time of Adversity

Greendale Secondary is proud of Beatrice Wong, a secondary 4 student, and her family for responding to nationwide movement to sew masks for fellow Singaporeans.

Beatrice and her brother Adriel,  under the guidance of their mother, starting sewing masks not long after the onset of COVID-19 to donate to those who need them. Beatrice does most of the sewing and Adriel helps with the measuring and cutting.

The school is proud of our student and her family for Being the Difference in time of Adversity.

We Can Make a Difference!

Greendale chooses to Be the Difference during this difficult time as the world and Singapore manages COVID-19 together.

Last week (Term 1 Week 6) our Sec 1s designed posters/comic strips: what we can do for our family during this period. Did they share these strips and posters with you at home?  Here are just some samples of the amazing work they did in class!

Our Sec 2s went a step further.  They chose to make a difference by showing appreciation to the school staff.  They wrote appreciate notes to School Leaders, teachers, operations staff and cleaners.  Here is a video of Mdm Wong receiving the notes from our Sec 2 students.

Thank You Sec 2 Students!

The Sec 3-5s created an impact beyond family and school.  They wrote appreciation notes to our frontline healthcare workers at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.  These notes were mailed out to them just in time for Valentine’s Day.  As a result, by Friday, 14 February 2020, the noticeboards of Tan Tock Seng were covered with the heartfelt notes from Greendale students.  We could tell the notes were well-received by the nurses because they sent a war, “Thank You” video!

Graduation Day 2019!

“The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams”

The annual GDLSS Graduation Ceremony for the Secondary 4/5 was held on 4 October 2019 (Friday).

It was an emotional ceremony for the students, teachers and parents. This ceremony marks the closure of a chapter, but it also signifies the beginning of another.

Teachers and many of the parents present had said they would not shed a tear, but the emotional moments of tenderness was too much to contain.

Planned and organised by the school management and teachers, every detail was meticulously looked into and carefully planned.

It was a special moment for all graduands when the Sec 4/5 Form Teachers took to the stage and sang a moving rendition of “If we hold on together”, sending out the message of “live believing; dreams never die”.

In return, the cohort delivered an emotional rendition of “Do I make you proud” to thank and appreciate the school, teachers and parents.

Not a single dry eye in the school hall on this day and this is the strongest testament of the bonds built between the teachers and students.

This graduation ceremony is the finale of the Class of 2019 in Greendale Secondary, where talents were nurtured and lives, inspired.

Every student received an unique graduation bear dressed in the school’s polo tee, and with a class gift filled full to the brim with loving thoughts and blessings from the Form Teachers of the graduating classes.

Indeed, the students went away with not only the memories of their life as a GDLSS student, but also the blessings of the school leaders and each and every teacher for their journey ahead.

As parents, we are more than heartened and appreciative of what had become of our children – Committed Learners, Critical Thinkers, Confident Leaders in their own rights.

All these would not be possible without the dedication and nurturing of the school leaders and teachers. ❤

To the Class of 2019, happy graduation 🎓! Remember, the best is yet to come! Game on and all the best for the rest of the N and O levels papers! 💪

Young Mathematician @GreendaleSec

Our very first Young Mathematician @GreendaleSec was launched in January 2018, opened to this year’s Sec 2 cohort. Students, from the Express and Normal Streams, were selected and invited to join the programme based on their Secondary 1 Overall Mathematics results in 2017.

Kickstarting the Young Mathematician programme, was an original “Escape Room” challenge designed by our Mathematics Department. On 23 January 2018, Young Mathematicians in training were tasked with solving a series of Olympiad questions which would eventually lead them to the key to escape their classroom.

It was heartening to see students display perseverance, teamwork and creativity!

It was interesting! I initially thought it may be boring but it turned out to be challenging. It required a lot of teamwork and thinking.” – Vidhi, 2E2

It was challenging but fun. I liked the challenge! I enjoyed the thrill of being locked up and having to escape by solving maths questions.” – Amanda, 2E5

The escape room was fun and interesting!” – Kah Hang, 2E3
