Learning journey to Brunei

Staff and students of Greendale Secondary School embarked on a MOE initiated exchange programme to Brunei from 21 Nov to 24 Nov 2018.

The 4-day and 3-night twinning programme aimed to allow both staff and students to learn more about the culture of our ASEAN neighbour. The delegation was hosted by Sekolah Manengah Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Radhidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah  (SMAPHRSB, a local secondary school located  in Kulau Belait). They had the opportunity to interact with the teachers and students of the school and learnt more about schooling in Brunei through the 1-day school visit.

Here are the highlights of the trip:

Original Blog Post (17 July 2018):

This past June, one of our Secondary 3 footballers, Muhamad Raqin Bin Shamrin from 3T1, was selected to be one of only four youth players to represent Singapore at the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Bangkok, Thailand.

This trip is on 16 – 19 July 2018, and is fully sponsored by the organizer. If he fares well in Bangkok against representatives from various other Asian countries, he could be selected for the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Munich, Germany which will be conducted by coaches and professional players of the famous German club Bayern Munich.

To get this opportunity, he attended trials that tested his football skills as he was pitted against youths from all around Singapore. In addition, in the final round, he had to go through an interview before being selected.

We wish Raqin all the best!

UPDATE:

We are pleased to share that Raqin is selected for the Allianz Junior Football Camp in Munich, Germany!

The camp will be held on 27 – 31 August 2018.

He, and another selected Singaporean, had a successful trip in Bangkok last week, where they played alongside representatives from various Asian countries such as China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Laos, Taiwan and Thailand.

Congratulations Raqin! May he fly the Greendale and Singapore flags proud!

Evocation 2018

On 2 June 2018, Greendale Chorale took part in Evocation 2018, a concert organised by EVOKXEVOKX is a young adult choir who seeks to involve youth in choral production while raising awareness of social causes.

In Evocation 2018, 5 choirs, including Greendale Chorale, came together to help raise funds for Community Health Assessment Team, a national outreach programme under the Institute of Mental Health. We had a great time learning from other choirs and performing the finale item, Omnia Sol (Let Your Heart Be Staid), with everyone!

Orientale Concentus 11

Greendale Chorale took part in Orientale Concentus 11 on 2 July 2018, held at SOTA Concert Hall. In this international competition, choirs from all over the world came to compete for the grand prize of $20,000!

We saw choirs from all over South East Asia, as well as from China, Taiwan and South Korea.

In our category, we faced off quality choirs from Philippines, Indonesia and other secondary school choirs from Singapore. We are proud to announce that of the six choirs in our category, only 2 were awarded Gold and we are one of them!

It was an amazing experience as we managed to invite one of the adjudicators to come to our school to conduct a masterclass for us. We also had the opportunity to listen to the winners of all the different categories on 4 July in Esplanade Concert Hall. Indeed, with these learning experiences, we aim to do our best for SYF next year!

Happy Retirement to our EAS Staff!

Happy Retirement to our EAS staff, Mdm Tan Siew Eng (Technical Support Officer), who will be retiring in March this year. She joined MOE in 2002, and has served the School @GreendaleSec since 2008.

Retirement is when you stop living at work, and you start working at living!

We sincerely thank you, Mdm Tan, for your many years of service to our schools. You will be sorely missed!

Malay Language Fortnight 2017

Students, from Secondary 1 to Secondary 3, participated in the Malay Language Fortnight programme during the September 2017 school holidays. They participated in batik painting, poetry writing and recital, Malay traditional games, and debates.

They enjoyed the sessions as they were given opportunities to showcase their talents to their peers. They were very engaged as all the activities were hands-on.

National Day Celebration 2017

The School celebrated National Day by having a formal parade in the morning led by our distinguished three Uniformed Groups: NPCC, NCC and Red Cross Youth.

Students watched the parade from the hall, via a live video feed, to ensure that all were able to see the parade in full. This was followed by National Day classroom lessons, which focused on commemorating 50 years of National Service. Some male teachers came to school in their National Service uniforms, and shared their national service stories with the students.

After the lesson, it was back to the hall for the concert segment and the annual Greendale’s Got Talent event, in which students get to showcase their hidden talents ranging from singing, playing musical instruments and dancing.

The event also featured guest performances by our very own Greendale Orchestra and Greendale Chorale.

Teachers’ Day 2017

The theme for this year’s Teachers’ Day Celebrations was Hollywood.

Our teachers have the talent, and were the Hollywood Stars of the day. It was definitely a day for students to express their gratitude to all teachers who shaped and nurtured them.

The first part of the celebrations was the ‘class party’, uniquely planned per each class, for their form teachers to show their appreciation.

After the class parties, teachers proceeded to the hall for a concert, filled with games and impressive performances by 1T1, 2E4 and the finalists of Greendale’s Got Talent.
